In a significant development in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district, the Vigilance Department has once again apprehended Dr. Jitendra Kanwar, former Secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission (HPSSC) and HAS officer. This arrest follows his previous detention on April 4th this year, from which he was later released on bail.
The latest arrest is linked to a case filed on December 23, 2022, at the Hamirpur Vigilance Station. The first FIR involved suspended senior assistant Uma Azad, her son Nitin, middleman Sanjeev, and eight others as accused.
So far, 13 cases have been registered by the Vigilance Bureau, with three individuals currently under judicial remand, including main accused Uma Azad, her son Nitin, and another, Ravi Kumar.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) summoned Dr. Jitendra Kanwar for questioning at the Hamirpur Vigilance Station yesterday. Subsequently, the Vigilance Department executed his arrest. While he was previously arrested in a different case, this recent development occurred after new evidence surfaced.
Following the arrest, Jitendra was presented in court on Tuesday and remanded in police custody until December 15. This move has heightened expectations of further revelations after thorough interrogation. It’s noteworthy that the fraudulent practices in the Staff Selection Commission were exposed after the Sukvinder Singh Sukkhu government assumed power. Chief Minister, suspended the commission temporarily, and upon discovering extensive paper leaks and irregularities, the state government plans to establish the State Employees Commission in its place.
