Technical University, Hamirpur: Delay in Appointment of Board of Governors Hinders Decision-Making

The Technical University in Hamirpur has been facing a setback for nearly a year due to the delay in appointing six nominated members to the Board of Governors. The absence of these members has halted crucial decision-making processes, leaving administrative matters in limbo and students’ concerns unaddressed.
Typically, universities rely on their governing bodies to make appointments, manage institutional affairs, and make pivotal decisions. However, the Technical University’s Board of Governors, chaired by the Chancellor, hasn’t been able to appoint these key members, stalling progress and impacting the university’s functionality.
Among the pending issues, the university is grappling with hefty fees imposed on students, who are demanding a reconsideration. Additionally, infrastructure development and the introduction of new courses have been put on hold. Transportation woes compound the situation, with students lacking adequate commuting facilities.
Efforts to address these challenges have seen student organizations engaging with the administration, urging action on various fronts. However, resolution hinges on the approval of the Board of Governors, necessitating swift action from the university’s leadership.
In response to mounting pressure, university authorities have assured stakeholders that the matter will be addressed promptly, with some demands forwarded to the Chief Minister for consideration. The government is also cognizant of the situation, with plans to expedite the appointment process post-elections.
