NIT Hamirpur has constituted a three-member committee for the recognition of the Department of Architecture’s degree course. The committee will soon travel to Delhi to address this matter. Following appointments with the Ministry of Education and Council of Architecture, the team will proceed to Delhi. Earlier, Architecture courses at NIT Hamirpur were being conducted without proper recognition from the Council of Architecture. After the issue came to light, the management swiftly formed a three-member committee to complete the approval process with the Council.

Hundreds of students at NIT Hamirpur were worried about their future due to the lack of approval from the Council of Architecture. Licensing approval from the Council is essential for educational institutions nationwide offering architectural courses. Although NIT Hamirpur’s Architecture department has been running bachelor degree programs for several years, it still lacks the necessary approval from the Council. The matter gained media attention after students wrote an open letter to the management, prompting them to take corrective action. It is now hoped that the committee will complete the process before the current batch graduates, avoiding any licensing issues for the students.

Director HM Suryavanshi of NIT Hamirpur convened a meeting with the students after the issue came to light. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the decision to form a three-member committee was taken promptly. The students were assured during the meeting that the process would be completed before the 2024 batch graduates. The administration of NIT Hamirpur has also hinted at the possibility of taking appropriate actions against any officer deemed responsible for this delay.

Dr. Archana Nanoti, the Registrar of NIT Hamirpur, confirmed the formation of the committee and stated that they would personally travel to Delhi to expedite the process.

Why is Council of Architecture Registration Essential?

NIT Hamirpur attracts students from all over the country for its Architecture programs. For any institution offering Architecture education, approval from the Ministry of Education and registration with the Council of Architecture are both mandatory. After completing their studies, students seeking jobs must have a license from the Council of Architecture. This license is granted to students from institutions registered with the Council. Despite years passing without proper registration at NIT Hamirpur, the delay in the registration process has now become a cause of concern for the students’ future.”
