Vishal Rana, Hamirpur
Ranjit Singh, the illustrious son of Hamirpur, has once again placed his hometown in the spotlight as he ascends to the prestigious rank of Lieutenant General in the Indian Army. This monumental achievement not only brings immense pride to Himachal Pradesh but also serves as an inspiring beacon for young aspirants aiming to serve the nation as officers in the armed forces.
In a heartfelt ceremony held at the Army Headquarters in New Delhi, Lieutenant General Ranjit Singh was decorated with the promotion badge by his senior officer while his mother Radha Rani & wife, Yogita, stood proudly by his side.
A resident of Hira Nagar Colony, Lt. General Ranjit Singh took charge as Major General in January 2022. He carries forward a legacy of military excellence as the son of the late Lt. Colonel Kishan Chand. The spirit of valor runs deep in his veins—his grandfather retired from the British Indian Army in 1932, and his uncle, Colonel Rampal Singh, commanded the Jammu & Kashmir Rifles in the 1970s.
Commissioned into the Indian Army in December 1989, Lt. General Singh’s journey has been marked by distinguished service in strategic roles, including his tenure as the Indian Army Attaché in Russia. His association with the Army began when he joined the 75th batch of the National Defence Academy in 1986, earning his first commission on December 16, 1989. His schooling across Yol, Mumbai, Udhampur, and other locations, due to his father’s postings, further shaped his resilience and determination.
This elevation stands as a tribute to Himachal’s unwavering legacy of courage and dedication to the nation. Congratulations and blessings pour in for Lieutenant General Ranjit Singh and his family, as they continue to uphold the proud tradition of bravery that defines Himachal Pradesh’s contribution to the Indian Army.
