In a transformative move, the Himachal Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has announced the creation of three new municipal corporations in Hamirpur, Una, and Baddi. This significant decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held on Saturday, reflecting a commitment to urban development and efficient governance.
Key Highlights of the Decision
Hamirpur’s Elevation: As the district headquarters of the CM’s home district, Hamirpur’s elevation to a municipal corporation holds symbolic and strategic importance.
Urban Expansion: Una and Baddi will also join the ranks of municipal corporations, enabling better infrastructure and administrative services.
Upgraded Urban Bodies: Nadoun and Jabli were upgraded to municipal councils, while Sandhol, Barsar, Dharampur, Bhoranj, Bagana, and Kunihar have been designated as municipal committees, ensuring focused development in these areas.
Employee Benefits and New Posts
A ₹500 hike in the monthly honorarium for multi-task workers in the Public Works Department brings their salary to ₹5,000.
30 senior resident doctor positions were sanctioned for Hamirpur Medical College, along with 326 new posts across various departments.
The Excise and Taxation Department and State Selection Commission also saw the approval of several new positions.
Social Welfare Measures
Citizens aged 70 and above will now be covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, providing ₹5 lakh annual health insurance coverage.
Single women and widows will receive ₹3 lakh in financial assistance to construct homes, underlining the government’s focus on social empowerment.
