In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party is devising a special strategy for the Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency and is gearing up with full force to secure this seat. According to Congress insiders, at the national level, the party, under the leadership of senior leader Digvijay Singh, has formed a committee. This committee’s mandate is to promptly announce candidates in those Lok Sabha constituencies where Congress has faced repeated defeats. Hamirpur is among the constituencies identified for this strategy, where Congress hasn’t won since 1996.

This time, Hamirpur presents a golden opportunity for Congress to conquer its fortress. The state’s Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and 13 out of 17 MLAs come from this Lok Sabha constituency.

Congress believes that by uniting the Army and Rajput communities, they have a good chance to challange BJP MP and Cabinate minister Anurag Singh Thakur. Hamirpur has a significant Rajput population, and it is widely known that almost every other household has a military connection. Congress strategists believe that this combination of Rajput and military support could lead them to victory here.

The last time Congress tasted victory in Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency was in 1996 when they fielded former Major General Vikram Singh, who also hailed from a Rajput family.

Considering this alliance between the Rajput and soldier communities, Congress views Colonel Dharmender Patyal, the State Secretary of Congress, as an excellent candidate.

Colonel Dharmender Patyal, hails from Bangana in Una district, received his education at the Sainik School Sujanpur Tihra in Hamirpur. Additionally, he pursued his graduation from the College in Hamirpur. He also served as the General secretary of the Central Students’ Union in Himachal Pradesh’s largest degree college Hamirpur, of that time.

During his military career, he led in various national and international military operations. Furthermore, for almost the past two decades, he has been actively involved with the Congress party. Colonel Dharmendra Patiala’s name has been considered several times for the Bangana Assembly constituency’s ticket.

The Congress party is setting its sights on the Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency with a well-thought-out strategy aimed at reversing years of electoral setbacks. With the formation of a special committee at the national level and the selection of strong candidates in crucial constituencies, including Hamirpur, Congress is determined to make a compelling bid for victory.

Hamirpur, is now poised to witness a fierce political battle. The synergy between the Rajput and military communities, embodied by Colonel Dharmender Patial, presents a promising alliance that could potentially turn the tide in Congress’s favor.
