Vishal Rana, Hamirpur

In a significant crackdown on a multi-million rupee cryptocurrency fraud case, the police conducted a raid at the mastermind’s residence in the Nadaun region. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) and local police collaborated in this joint operation related to cryptocurrency scams. During the raid, the police discovered currency notes from several countries inside the suspect’s house.

Sunil Kumar, a retired person, was arrested by the Punjab Police in Zirakpur a few days ago. As per information, Sunil Kumar resides in Kuthiana village, Nohangi Panchayat. On Saturday morning, Nadaun Police executed the search warrant at his residence and meticulously examined the premises. The search yielded five diaries, dollar bills, three dirham currency notes, and five Thai currency notes, along with various other documents.

It was revealed that several individuals involved in this scam, including Sunil Kumar, have connections to Himachal Pradesh. The initial investigation into this cryptocurrency scam involving millions of rupees has raised concerns of possible ties to terror funding. This development has raised alarm bells, prompting heightened scrutiny from law enforcement agencies.

Furthermore, it has come to light that prior to this raid, some individuals who fell victim to a similar scam in the Mandi district had informed Union Minister Ramdas Athawale about their situation. Athawale subsequently brought the matter to the attention of Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri. Following this, the state government directed rigorous action against the culprits.

The ongoing investigation, which dates back to 2019, has implicated several police officers, officials, politicians, and others. There are also fears that many individuals in the Nadaun region have invested substantial amounts of money in this fraudulent scheme, which has sent shockwaves through the community. Following the police raid on Saturday, there has been widespread panic among those who invested in the cryptocurrency scheme, with thousands of people having poured lakhs of rupees into it.
