Vishal Rana, Hamirpur
Hamirpur residents face a dilemma as the younger generation is deprived of Dussehra festivities and traditional Ramleela performances due to the absence of a suitable venue. Despite the town having a centrally located playground at the Rajkiya Bal Varisht Madhyamik Paathshala, organizing events there requires permission from the high court, posing significant challenges for the administration and other organizations.
The recent Hamir Utsav, Dussehra, and Ramleela performances were conducted in makeshift arrangements, highlighting the long-standing need for a dedicated cultural space. Gandhi Chowk is the only available location for large events, but obtaining permission is cumbersome. This has led to a disconnect between the community and its cultural heritage.
Despite the Boy’s School playground being an ideal alternative, bureaucratic hurdles and lack of support hinder its use for various cultural programs. Advocates for consumer protection and social organizations are actively pushing for the transfer of the playground to the Youth Services and Sports Department, allowing it to become a hub for diverse events.
The Deputy Commissioner, Hem Raj Vairba, acknowledges public demand for relocating the playground and assures that the matter will be forwarded to the state government for consideration. The community hopes for a swift resolution to preserve their cultural traditions and provide future generations with the joy of Dussehra celebrations and Ramleela performances.
