Traffic Suspended on Anu Road to Prevent Mishaps
Vishal Rana, Hamirpur
A sudden and fierce fire broke out around 10 AM on Monday at the Electricity Department’s Meter and Transformer Repair Store in Hamirpur. The flames quickly engulfed the entire facility, leading to several large explosions. The local officials immediately notified the fire brigade, which rushed to the scene and began battling the blaze. However, the fire completely destroyed the repair store, causing an estimated loss of over 5 to 6 crores.
The fire consumed around 80 transformers and approximately 20 drums of transformer oil. Given the heavy traffic on Anu Road, the police swiftly moved to halt all vehicular movement in both directions to prevent any major accidents. Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh arrived at the scene to assess the situation firsthand.
Deputy Commissioner Singh confirmed that the fire had ravaged the Meter and Transformer Repair Store, with significant quantities of oil also reduced to ashes. He reported that the fire department, alongside the police, had managed to bring the blaze under control, but not before the electricity department suffered substantial financial losses.
The sudden blaze at the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board’s Meter and Testing Warehouse in Anu escalated rapidly, leading to multiple powerful explosions. The police and traffic authorities immediately restricted vehicle movement on the Anu road to avoid any further hazards. Despite the fire department’s quick response, the blaze proved difficult to control, with water from the fire trucks having little effect due to the explosion of oil tanks stored in the warehouse. Firefighters dispatched two additional trucks to the scene, each taking turns to extinguish the flames. The fire also threatened nearby buildings as it spread beyond the warehouse.
