Hamirpur to Get Bigger: 84 Villages Added, No House Tax for 5 Years

Vishal Rana, Hamirpur

In a significant move aimed at urban development and administrative efficiency, the Hamirpur Municipal Corporation is set to expand by incorporating 84 revenue villages, increasing its jurisdiction to 31.52 square kilometers and raising the population under its governance to 40,278. This proposal, once finalized, will create 20 wards, up from the current 11.

The initiative is part of a broader government plan to enhance civic amenities and streamline governance. However, to ease the transition for residents of the newly added areas, the government has announced a five-year exemption from house tax.

Key Highlights of the Proposal
Massive Expansion: The new municipal limits will cover 84 villages, absorbing a population of 22,674 from rural areas.
Tax Relief: Residents in the newly added zones will not have to pay house tax for the next five years, ensuring a smooth adjustment to urban governance.
Exclusions: Of the initially proposed 108 villages, 28 have been excluded after revisions.
Focus on Infrastructure: The expanded area will benefit from improved urban amenities, including streetlights, sewer systems, and better roads.
Development Goals and Government Vision
According to officials, the government is committed to transforming the expanded municipal area into a model urban zone. Once the proposal receives approval from the Chief Minister and the Governor, developmental activities will gain momentum. The focus will be on enhancing water supply, sanitation, and public services.

Elections Scheduled for 2025

Elections for the expanded municipal corporation are expected to be held by December 2025. This timeline gives ample opportunity for administrative adjustments and the execution of initial development projects.

The expansion of the Hamirpur Municipal Corporation represents a leap towards urbanization and balanced growth. By bringing more villages under municipal governance and offering tax relief, the government aims to create a foundation for inclusive development. The inclusion of areas like Amroh Chowk, Bohani, and Jhaniyara ensures that the benefits of urban infrastructure will soon reach every corner of this growing region.

This ambitious step not only promises better facilities but also paves the way for Hamirpur’s transformation into a modern, thriving city.
