Innovative Solutions for Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization Discussed at NIT Hamirpur’s International Conference, METHD-2024

The second day of the three-day International Conference METHD-2024 at NIT Hamirpur saw a convergence of experts from renowned academic institutions worldwide. Focusing on Production, Thermal, and Design Engineering, the sessions explored key challenges in energy efficiency and decarbonization.

Professor Devdas Shetty from Columbia University, Washington D.C., USA, delivered the keynote address on robotics, nanomaterials, and drone technology. He highlighted the intricacies of robotics and its future potential, sparking interest among participants. Prominent scientist Shiv Prakash Sharan also contributed an engaging lecture, while Subhash Chand Naik, a scientist from the Bureau of Indian Standards, provided valuable insights on product standardization and design benchmarks in mechanical engineering.

The conference featured global participants presenting their research on a wide range of topics, including, Green energy solutions, System design and Industry 4.0, Advanced materials, Robotics and additive manufacturing
Artificial intelligence and machine learning in mechanical engineering.

Notably, NIT Hamirpur’s Mechanical Engineering Department currently operates nine externally funded research projects from various Indian funding agencies. These projects delve into critical areas such as green energy, battery thermal management systems, solar energy, green hydrogen, and advanced nano-finishing and polishing technologies.

In a remarkable feat, the department has filed 10 Indian patents in 2024 alone and published over 50 research papers in peer-reviewed journals, showcasing its dedication to cutting-edge innovation and impactful research.

The second day of METHD-2024 successfully fostered an international dialogue on emerging engineering challenges and solutions. By uniting experts, researchers, and industry leaders, the conference is driving advancements in sustainable energy and next-generation technologies, reaffirming NIT Hamirpur’s position as a hub of academic and research excellence.
