25 Years Rigorous Imprisonment for Father Convicted Under POCSO Act in Hamirpur

In a landmark judgment that underscores the grim realities of child abuse in society, the Special Judge of Hamirpur District has sentenced a person from Hamirpur to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment. The accused, a resident of Hamirpur, was found guilty under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 376 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The case, following a complaint by the minor victim. Shockingly, the accused was the victim’s own father and worked as a driver. The trial, prosecuted by Special Public Prosecutor Sandeep Agnihotri, involved testimonies from 20 witnesses and revealed the heinous nature of the crime.

In addition to the 25-year imprisonment, the court has imposed a fine of ₹1,00,000 on the accused. Failure to pay this fine will result in an additional six months of simple imprisonment. Furthermore, the court has awarded ₹5,00,000 as compensation to the child victim, acknowledging the profound trauma inflicted upon her.

This verdict serves as a stark reminder of the pressing need to ensure the safety and well-being of children, even within their own homes. The case highlights the critical role of the judiciary in delivering justice and deterring such deplorable crimes.
