In a shocking incident that has left a village community reeling, a 40-year-old woman was brutally attacked with a sickle and a stick by a minor boy after she resisted his alleged sexual advances. The victim is currently battling for her life at PGIMER, Chandigarh, with critical injuries.
The horrific event unfolded on Monday evening in Sasan village when the woman, identified as Ranjana (40), had gone to cut grass in her field. According to police officials, a 14-year-old boy, a Class 9 student at a local government school, approached her with the intention of sexual assault.
When the woman refused and put up a fight, the minor allegedly flew into a rage. He first attacked her with a sharp sickle and then bludgeoned her with a stick, leaving her severely injured and bleeding profusely in the field.
Local villagers discovered the grievously wounded woman and immediately alerted the police, who rushed her to the Hamirpur Medical College. Due to the severity of her wounds, she was later referred to the advanced trauma center at PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Upon receiving the information, a police team, including ASP Rajesh Sharma and SHO Kulwant Singh, arrived at the scene for investigation. Evidence, including a pen and pieces of a broken scale, was collected from the crime scene.
“Based on evidence gathered from the spot and subsequent interrogation, a 14-year-old minor has been taken into custody,” said ASP Rajesh Sharma. “During questioning, the minor confessed to his crime. The preliminary investigation reveals that the attack was triggered when the woman resisted his attempt to make sexual advances.”
The arrest has sent shockwaves through the small village, with residents expressing horror and disbelief at the sheer brutality of the crime committed by someone so young. The police are proceeding with the case under the relevant sections of law, including the Juvenile Justice Act.
The incident has raised serious concerns about violent criminal tendencies among minors and the safety of women in rural areas.
