In a sharp political counteroffensive, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu seized upon a statement by BJP MP Anurag Thakur to allege that the national party is crippled by internal divisions in the state. The Chief Minister’s remarks came during his one-day visit to the Nadaun assembly constituency in Hamirpur district.

The political firestorm was ignited over BJP MP Anurag Thakur’s recent allusion to “Paanch Pandavas” within the party. CM Sukhu, turning the metaphor on its head, declared that the BJP has finally admitted to being split into five factions.

“The Pandavas fought a war to protect the interests of five villages,” stated Chief Minister Sukhu, addressing public gatherings in the Majheli and Saredi areas. “But these five factions of the BJP have completely failed in presenting Himachal’s case and protecting the state’s economic interests before the Central government.”

The Chief Minister’s comments are being seen as a significant political maneuver, aiming to portray the principal opposition party as a disjointed entity unable to effectively advocate for the state.

Shifting from politics to development, the Chief Minister made a landmark announcement that is set to transform healthcare in the region. He declared that Himachal Pradesh’s largest cancer institute will be established in Hamirpur.

“This institute will provide advanced treatment to cancer patients from across the state, ensuring they no longer have to travel to other states for quality care,” CM Sukhu said. The move is expected to significantly ease the financial and emotional burden on thousands of families grappling with the disease.

During his tour, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stones for a Primary Health Centre and an Animal Dispensary in Saredi. He also dedicated time to listening to the grievances of local residents, directing officials to ensure swift resolutions to their problems.

The event was attended by a host of Congress leaders, including Sujanpur MLA Captain Ranjit Singh Rana, former MLA Kuldeep Pathania, Hamir Congress leader Dr. Puspendra Verma, and outgoing District President Suman Bharti, underscoring the party’s focus on strengthening its base in the region.

The day’s events highlighted a dual strategy from the ruling party: a vigorous political assault on the opposition’s unity, coupled with a major promise of public welfare to solidify its development agenda.
