Innovative Strategy to Revive HRTC: Green Cards Now Available in Local Markets

State Government’s Bold Move to Rescue HRTC from Financial Crisis

In a determined effort to revive the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) from its financial woes, the state government has embarked on a series of innovative measures. The primary aim is to not only stabilize the corporation but also to enhance the accessibility of transportation services in remote and rural areas of Himachal Pradesh.

Among these measures, a significant step has been taken to boost the sale of HRTC’s Green Cards. These cards, which provide convenient travel options on HRTC buses, will now be available for purchase in everyday local markets. In a landmark decision directed by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, the state government has approved the sale of Green Cards through general stores and authorized vendors.

Under this new initiative, any grocery store owner or authorized individual can act as an HRTC agent and sell Green Cards. For each card sold, the vendor will earn a commission, making this a lucrative opportunity for small business owners. This decision mirrors the distribution model of mobile phone SIM cards, allowing consumers to purchase Green Cards from any vendor associated with HRTC.

Humes Kumar, the Regional Manager of the HRTC, highlighted the dual benefits of this move: “This will not only increase the corporation’s revenue but also create employment opportunities for the unemployed.”

Commission Details: The government has set a commission rate of ₹5 per Green Card for vendors, making it an attractive incentive for those participating in the scheme.

The state’s proactive approach to integrating Green Cards into local markets not only promises to revive HRTC’s financial health but also opens new avenues for economic growth and employment. This initiative stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to innovative solutions for public welfare and sustainable development.
